Service & Outreach
ST VINCENT DE PAUL
Saint Vincent de Paul Society is a highly respected charitable organisation throughout the world and the Hendra/Northgate conference has been active for over 60 years. The Society aspires to be recognised as a caring lay Catholic charity offering “a hand up” to people in need in our local community. We do this by respecting their dignity, sharing our hope and encouraging people to take control of their own destiny.
Our group of dedicated volunteers meets fortnightly and is regularly called upon to assist those in need. Persons seeking assistance are asked to call the SVDP call centre on 3010 1096 who then direct the matter to the group. We are extremely grateful for the continued generosity of benefactors whose financial donations direct to our conference enable us to continue with this vital and grass roots assistance. Anyone interested in making a donation outside of our annual appeal is encouraged to contact the conference president ([email protected]) or anyone of the members directly. If you or someone you know would like to consider becoming a member of the local conference please contact the Parish or email Glenn.
HOSPITALITY
“Make Hospitality Your Special Care” (Romans 12:13)
Our parish hospitality group organises and provides hospitality after Mass, at funerals and at other parish events. This group is a wonderful way to connect with, and serve, our fellow parishioners and visitors by sharing food, drink and conversation.
If you would like to volunteer your services in the hospitality group, please contact the Parish Office.
COMMUNION TO THE SICK
Sometimes Catholics are unable to come to Mass because of illness or because they are homebound for one reason or another. This does not mean they have to miss out on receiving Communion. Priests or lay ministers can visit the sick and homebound to give Holy Communion to them. The sick person who receives Communion this way is sharing in the Eucharistic meal of the whole parish community.
Each week, Extraordinary Ministers of Communion visit those in their homes and at the Portofino Aged Care Home. Fr. Michael also visits the sick by appointment.
Please contact the Parish Office for more information.
